No more Sirius for me. April 18, 2009

Earlier tonight, I canceled my immediate family’s three subscriptions to Sirius Satellite Radio. In the four years we were subscribed to it, I rarely listened and no one else listened. So, why even waste money by subscribing to something you never listen to? That led to the cancellation tonight.
As a result, I have the following items available:
- Audiovox Sirius tuner (SIRPNP2) with docking station
- Sirius Boombox (SIRBB1); compatible with the above receiver
- Audiovox Sirius mobile dock (SIRCK1); compatible with SIRPNP1 or SIRPNP2 (above receiver), unopened
- JVC Sirius tuner (KT-SR2000); unopened
- JVC Sirius wireless FM car kit (KS-K6012); unopened
- Sirius Stiletto 10 receiver with docking station
If anyone is interested in either or all of these, leave a comment to this post or e-mail me.
4/20 UPDATE: I found someone that was interested in all the items, but what you see in this post is what I had.
Smooth Jazz for Scholars 2009 April 17, 2009

As I posted two months ago today, Jay Rowe’s 7th annual Smooth Jazz for Scholars concert will take place on Saturday, May 16. The concert will be held at the Joseph A. Foran High School Auditorium in Milford, Connecticut, and will benefit the Milford Public School’s Music Department.
In addition to guitarits Chieli Minucci and Ken Navarro, and saxophonists Nelson Rangell and Marion Meadows, the concert will also feature guitarist Rohn Lawrence, drummer Dave Livolsi, bass guitarist Trever Somerville, and vocalist Lamone Andrews. All four musicians are part of Best Kept Secret, Jay’s band.

I can’t believe it took me two days to remember that one year ago Wednesday, April 15, The Mike Chimeri Blog was born. This blog has become the place to read about what goes on in my life.
I’m sorry that there have been long lulls between posts lately, but I’ll have plenty to post about in the coming days and weeks. Stay tuned.

Paul Brown & Marc Antoine’s collaborative CD arrived in my front porch yesterday. As I type this early Wednesday morning, I just finished listening to all ten tracks. I say this for nearly every album I listen to, but it was great.

I also bought “Dennis Miller: The HBO Comedy Specials” on DVD, which was released two weeks ago. I should be getting that in a day or two.
4/13 UPDATE: “Global Cooling” is now available on Amazon through Group 2 Productions. Amazon also lists “Rock Steady” as coming out next Tuesday, April 21, rather than May 19. We’ll see if that holds up.
4/17 UPDATE: It didn’t hold up. The listed release date is back to May 19.

Gregg Karukas’ “GK” arrived today. I’m ripping it to the computer right now. It features two tracks with a “Contractually Anonymous” saxophonist. I think I know who it is, but I won’t speculate here.
Meanwhile, I’m loving Chuck Loeb’s “Between 2 Worlds.” “Let’s Go” is my favorite track so far. I like it as much as I did in my last post. Equally enjoyable are “Mittens,” “Let’s Play,” and the title track.

Chuck Loeb’s “Between Two Worlds” arrived 90 minutes ago. I’m about to rip the tracks to one of my external hard drives and I’ll get to listening to it tomorrow. I have heard the first track – “Let’s Go” – while filling out track information before ripping. It sounds great. Who needs keyboards? (It’s a keyboard-less album.) And if that’s any indication, I’m going to like this album.

The Rippingtons’ “Modern Art” arrived in the mail on Tuesday and I spent yesterday and today listening to it. I love it! “Jet Set” is my favorite track so far.
Paul Jackson Jr.’s and Darren Rahn’s albums were good, too.
Latest TPiR double showcase winner March 11, 2009

For third time in a month, and the fourth time in three months, a contestant on “The Price is Right” wins both showcases in the Showcase round. Today, the lucky contestant was Lorna Baker.
Lorna was the fourth of the first four contestants to come on down at the top of the show, and the fourth contestant to make it on stage, winning a Traeger Lil’ Pig grill in One Bid. Once on stage, she played Freeze Frame and won Wesley Allen bed with a Laura Ashley mattress.
In the Showcase Showdown, she spun 1.00 on the Big Wheel, winning $1,000, but nothing more in her bonus spin.
In the Showcase round, Lorna passed the first showcase to the runner-up, Catherine. The first showcase consisted of a Kitty Hawk Kites kiteboarding kit, a Segway scooter, and a Toyota Prius hybrid car. The second showcase contained Broyhill’s Affinity living room collection, Noritake dinnerware, a private chef from Big City Chefs, and a trip to Brussels, Belgium! (Sorry, I morphed into announcer Rich Fields for a second.)
Lorna’s bid for that second showcase was $17,250. The actual retail price…$17,333! With a difference of $83, $4 less than Zachary Newton’s difference two weeks ago, Lorna Baker won both showcases. In all, she won $56,150 in cash and prizes. What a day.

I also ordered saxophonist Darren Rahn’s “Talk of the Town” album, which was released two weeks ago, and guitarist Paul Jackson Jr.’s “Lay It Back,” which came out on October 7.
I listened to Jeff Kashiwa’s “Back In The Day” and Pieces Of A Dream’s “Soul Intent” Wednesday through Friday. They were fairly good, but as always, it’ll take a few more plays for the songs to grow on me.
